Having to spend eight or nine hours a day in your office is quite ordinary nowadays, and most people function this way without asking too many questions whether that’s all right or not. However, if you can’t seem to do anything regarding how much time you spend in the office, you can surely affect how you spend it and what you can do to make it better, more enjoyable and, above all, more productive.

Maintaining the same level of office productivity from morning till the afternoon is almost impossible, but if you’re organized and detail-oriented, it can be done. So, if you too want to become a better employee, here are a few simple tricks that will help you maximize your office productivity in a matter of days.

6 Ways to Increase your Office Productivity

How to Boost Your Office Productivity

1. Cluttering and decluttering

Being surrounded by unnecessary items is one of the biggest problems with modern offices – they’re full of things you don’t really need and a bunch of trash is definitely not helping you become more productive and motivated.

Luckily, this problem can be solved quite easily and all you need to do is declutter from time to time: decide what you do and don’t need, simply sell, donate or throw away the former group, and you’re good to go. Decluttering an office doesn’t have to be that hard nor time-consuming, so learn how to do it efficiently as soon as possible!

2. Set the temperature

Regardless of the season, the chances are your office temperature is higher than it should be. This is especially true in the winter because nobody wants to get cold. Nevertheless, high temperature makes you sleepy and unfocused, and this kills your concentration and willingness to work.

The problem is that not everyone perceives temperature the same way and just because you’re cold doesn’t mean the rest of the colleagues from your office feel the same way. So, what you need to do is find the right temperature that suits everyone and doesn’t make you sleepy and unmotivated, because if you feel that way at work, you should have stayed in your bed instead of bothering to get up.

3. Natural light

This is another thing that boosts your office productivity and helps you get more work done in less time. If you’re lucky enough to work in an eco-friendly and environmentally-aware company that pays close attention to preserving the atmosphere and does everything it can to become greener itself, you’re probably used to having huge windows in your office.

This way, an abundance of natural light can enter your office and help you focus on your work. In addition to that, fresh air has a couple of other benefits as well, and it helps you become healthier and more satisfied with your life.

4. Categorize everything

Knowing where everything is and not having to waste a considerable amount of time, money and patience on tracking down every single thing day after day is, in short, quite amazing. However, reaching the highest level of office organization is never easy, and you really have to put your mind to it if you want it to be properly organized.

Most people love categorizing everything and keeping all their essential documents in folders and binders that can be easily reached. Moreover, some of them use a reliable Dymo label maker tape that helps them label their items and keep them neatly organized, which can save a ton of time in the long run.

5. Take care of your desk

The desk is the most important area of the office and unless you pay attention to it, it will become dirty, uninspiring and full of trash, and that won’t be good for your performance.

But, if you find a way to properly take care of your desk day after day, you’ll eventually actually start looking forward to going to work. Therefore, don’t be afraid to organize and reorganize your desk every once in a while until you find the setup you’re most satisfied with.

6. Add some plants

Introducing plants into an office isn’t a tactic everyone loves – especially not men, to be honest – but doing so has more benefits that you can imagine. Not only do plants look good and add a dose of elegance into your office, but they also purify the air, minimize the pollution, clean the dust particles, cure your allergies and, above all, help your motivation and boost your productivity. Just imagine how amazing it would be to write your quarterly report with a beautiful lemon balm or an inspirational peace lily by your side!

Unfortunately, none of these tricks to increase your office productivity won’t be effective unless you really love your job and enjoy spending time at the office. And since you already have to spend the better part of your day there, at least make sure it’s adequately decorated and designed so that it boosts your motivation.
